TOP WALKING/ RUNNING / CYCLING TRACKS

Just because you are on holiday, does not mean that you have to give up your morning walk or exercise routine. We recognise that health and fitness is just as important to some travellers during their adventures, as it is when they are home.

We have selected our three Top locations that combine multiple walking, running, and cycling tracks in that one location, in each of our states three main centres; Hobart, Launceston and Devonport. For each location selected below, there are also park or recreational facilities available, including BBQ shelters, public toilet facilities and more.

WATERWORKS RESERVE.

SOUTH HOBART

Quietly situated above the suburb of South Hobart/Sandy Bay, but under the watchful eye of Kunanyi/ Mount Wellington, the Waterworks Reserve is built around two of Hobart's main water reservoirs. Multiple BBQ shelters, park and picnic areas run up the Southern length of the Reserve, looking out over the water (including public toilets), with a loop track following the bush along the opposite side and back around. Further walks can be found close by.

For this exercise location, we have focused on the two circuit options that can be used for walking, running and cycling.

DISTANCE: Hobart CBD - Waterworks Reserve: 11 minutes (car)

HOBART

CATARACT GORGE.

LAUNCESTON

Aside from being one of the most picturesque travel locations within Tasmania, the Cataract Gorge is also home to a range of short and long distance walking, running & cycling track options.

The Cataract Gorge also combines swimming areas (Gorge itself and public outdoor swimming pool), BBQ areas/shelters, park-land, two cafes, a chairlift and public toilets.

We have put together the top three exercise circuits for this location.

DISTANCE: Launceston CBD - Cataract Gorge: 10 minutes (car)

DON RIVER - DEVONPORT BLUFF

DEVONPORT. NORTH-WEST COAST

Designed and constructed as walking tracks between the original township of Don, around to Devonport's fore-shore (The Bluff and Mersey River), this is an excellent option for walking/running or cycling. The route also includes Devonport's newly re-vampted Aquatic Centre, small park/recreation areas, two main beaches (The Bluff and Coles Beach), as well as connection to Mersey River and the centre of Devonport itself.

We have put together information on three walking popular walking routes, depending on how you feel/looking for. The first track is a 3km circuit, starting at Don's River Railway/park area, looping through the bush either side of the Don River.

The other two routes follow the track further from Don River Railway for 5km to The Bluff and recreation area/beach, and a smaller return route if starting from The Bluff.
